Process Documentation

Behind the Wheel Driver’s Ed

  • Behind the Wheel Driver’s Ed is a driving school in Cincinnati, Ohio. They teach new drivers ages 15½ and older how to drive, both with in person classroom lessons and in-car lessons behind the wheel.

  • In 2023, their sign up process was done completely in person, completely on paper. This led to some lost business for them, as not everyone could schedule an appointment when the owner was available. Plus, they were only accepting cash or personal checks, which was another reason why some people chose to go to another driving school.

  • In September 2023, I worked with the owner of BTW Driver’s Ed to implement an all-in-one document signature platform and credit card processor, Honeybook. As part of that implementation, I wrote up process documentation to walk the owner through all aspects of the platform: The terminology, why it was configured the way it was, how to navigate the platform - and within this documentation, I tailored it to fit his needs, including the workflows his business used to ensure understanding.

  • In the four months since launching the platform in September 2023, BTW Driver’s Ed has signed up 193 new students electronically, bringing in ~$150,000 in revenue.

We have updated workflows (and therefore, the process documentation) a few times since launching due to customer feedback or new features added to the platform. The owner is thrilled with the implementation and, although he doesn’t love the onset of credit card processing fees, has really enjoyed the ease of gaining new business: So much so that we redesigned the website to allow people to sign up completely online, without ever having to speak with a person.
